  1. Berjaya and Genting Deny Involvement in Alleged Forest City Casino Talks

Both Berjaya Corp and Genting Malaysia Bhd have denied any involvement in talks about a second casino in Forest City, Johor. This comes after Malaysia’s PM Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim refuted the alleged talks, calling them “lies”. Genting Malaysia stated, “Neither the company nor Tan Sri Lim (Kok Thay) was involved in any such discussions or meetings.” Berjaya Corp went as far as lodging a police report over the claims and releasing an official press release statement. 

  1. Macau Sees 26.0% Year-on-Year Growth in April GGR

Macau’s gaming industry continues its robust growth, recording a 26% increase in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) compared to April 2023. The total GGR for the first four months of 2024 reached MOP$75.87bn (US$9.41bn), marking a substantial 53.7% rise from the same period last year and reaching 76.1% of GGR levels in 2019. This positive trajectory indicates a promising outlook for Macau’s economic recovery, driven by increased tourism and improved consumer confidence.
